the bad plusmarco benevento and joe russo duo (i like their older stuff over their newer stuff and don't have any albums i can recommend but do have some live shows) tortoise esbjorn svensson trio the necks most matthew shipp and william parker stuff (it's quite a bit more along the lines of free jazz but amazing music) jacob fred jazz odyssey i'm sure that there are others that i'm missing, but those are the contemporary artists that a mmw fan might also enjoy.

I don't know if any of you guys ever check out Pandora.com but I've found some amazing stuff using that site. Dr. Lonnie Smith & David "Fathead" Newman Robert Walter Grant Green just to name a few. it's been a cool resource for me, hope it can be helpful for others too.

Jazz Mandolin is a good band for sure. Although I am not a loyal fan. sometimes they really hit the spot. Its like Jazz/Bluegrass/Psychdelic rock, all in one. I hear hints of pink floyd influence all over it. (this is based on my live experiences, I've never heard their studio material)

Charlie Hunter Christian McBride Marc Ribot Just don't expect MMW replicas. these are all bands that would fit well on the same bill as MMW, have the same fans for the most part. In Ribot's case, he is like the 4th member of MMW. do yourself a favor and get as many shows as possible with Ribot sitting in on guitar.

I've been through this before... looking for that MMW sound in other groups. I have to be honest... they are completely unique. In my opinion, the only place your going to experience the MMW sound is with MMW. You can find traces of their sound when they collaborate with other musicians. One example that I like is Chris Wood with Stanton Moore. Peace & Music, Joe
