"Looking for MMW DVDs!" |
Hi all! I'm new to the forum, and relatively new to MMW. I've been watching some live footage of them on youtube, and am now wanting to buy some DVDs of their live performances, and I thought I'd ask around here about some recommendations. Any thoughts on a few good ones to get started on, or maybe some favorites or 'essentials'? If you might also recommend a place they can be purchased, I would appreciate it very much! Thanks in advance!

Dude, anyone who offers to sell you mmw dvds is ripping you off. First, I don't think MMW allows video recordings of their shows. Second, the ones that are out there are not for sale and should never cost you anything to get. If you want MMW dvds, do like the rest of us and research how to get them. Being a huge MMW fan, it's impossible to not want shows on video. If you look hard enough, you'll find em. Good luck and welcome to your new obsession.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that you can buy the bonnaroo dvd from 05? or 04? (has a short mmw performance) and the best of blue note compilation (has a couple of songs).

LAST EDITED ON May-17-09 AT 04:47 PM (EST)Note Bleu, the compilation CD from the Blue Note years, has two songs from two different shows. One is the EOTWP tour @ the Newport Jazz Festival. The other is the Texaco Jazz Festival and looks to be the Combustication era tour. But the jewel in this jewel case is The Dropper documentary. Worth the price of admission. It's a good place to start if you're just getting into the group. Maybe the compilation + Shackman + the latest release and you should have some conception of what they're all about. Basically the same style w/ many different approaches.
