"Help, can't find this chord"
I can't find what this chord is, and I know it's an easy one, just escaping my ear right now. It's in Note Bleu off of Dropper, right about the 0:57 mark it comes up, right after the V-VI-I, it seems to be some type of Eb, the bass is riding between Eb and Bb, I just seem to have a mental block on it??
Thanks, Den

You're talkin' about the turnaround or stop chord at the end of the progression?

It's an Fm7 with an inverted minor 3rd. F,C,Eb,Ab. Minor third on top. At least that's what I hear.

Funny thing, a person on another fan forum posed the same question about a Cm7 with the same inversion.

I guess the ear gets used to hearing the 3rd after the root for so long......whatever.

That kind of makes sense. I played around a bit more with it and was landing on a simple Ab major chord over an Eb in the bass which is where you landed with the addition of an F. I knew it was right under my nose, just couldn't seem to land there. Thanks for the ear.

I think you could write it out as Eb/Fm7.
The bass is doing some funky counterpoint.
Sounds like a Db>Eb into the stop.
There's a lot going on at this point.
I'm still not positive about it but it's as close as my ears can get. It's happening pretty fast.

jookey
