Nice performance last night at Lincoln center. John was primarily playing on a Hammond but also played some piano and melodica as well. No major solos or anything, he was just blending in very well. John works well as a humble sideman when he wants to fit that role. There was a song where John had a piano intro, and it went into this dark piano groove that was pretty cool.

Interesting music from this band, they play some tunes that just groove, and some that expose their Russian roots, and some tunes are just crazy weird and all over the place. And of course, some tunes combine these all into one. At times, the sound from the band was blending together and it was hard to hear who was playing what (it got a little muddy at times). They had a keyboardist in the back of the stage and I could not hear one note he played. The horn players are great, they are essential to this band. I could hear the horns pretty well. I would go to see this band again, but I would prefer to see them indoors, hoping that the sound is a little better.

was anyone else there? did anyone see a Leslie speaker? i couldn't see it. I've never seen John play a Hammond without a Leslie. maybe it was hidden on stage somewhere.
