"what's next?"
I'm curious. now that the wad has been shot with the box set and everything, what do ya'll think the next progression is going to be? Do any of you more experienced listeners have any thoughts or predictions? As much as I'd like to hear "The Lover" live, I like the exploration. I'd like them to take off and keep going wherever. I guess whatever gets them to keep getting up on stage is ok with me.

I would love to see them do an album/tour with a guitarist: Marc Ribot or Dave Tronzo.

Oh yes, Ribot sounds perfect with MMW. I would also love to see them playing with Sax great Skerik!

Yeah, I liked the album with schoffield. The shows I've heard with Ribot are awesome too. Sax would be interesting. I bet it would be fun to revisit their roots a little bit with some brass.

God forbid it, but if I could ever force MMW to do one thing it would be to do an album with David Tronzo! He is the only guitar player I've heard with a voice as unique as theirs. I absolutely love Ribot and Scofield but we've heard that before and would REALLY love to hear what would happen if MMW got their minds together with Tronzo. Download the improv from Camp MMW 2009 with David Tronzo to see what I mean

I'd love them to do a reggae album or a Hendrix tribute album. They clearly love Hendrix as much as I do. And their versions of cover songs are brilliant. *See Lively Up Yourself.

Maybe, it's a step backwards, or just forwards in reverse.

A Hendrix Tribute album would be sick. I'd be psyched to see that. Here's to wishful thinking though. Another idea i'd love to see would be a collaberation with Trey Spruance of Secret Chiefs 3/Mr Bungle fame. I think it'd be interesting, and they're somewhat connected to the school of John Zorn. Again wishful thinking but that's really what this whole post is about i guess.

Any idea what's next for Medeski, Martin and Wood?

"There's a record we'd like to make that we're hoping to get back to work on next year. We have this idea of doing a record of music based on riddims from Billy's book. We want to film the entire making of it and do a DVD, and its going to have an educational side to it – we've been doing these annual music camps, so we'd like to do something that documents how we develop the music, something we can use to teach up-and-coming musicians. The producer we want to use is a friend and great musician, Danny Blume. We have a lot of fun working with him."
